A POPULAR coffee chain wishes to add outdoor seating to its store in Tynedale.

Costa Coffee, on Fore Street in Hexham, has applied for a pavement licence from Northumberland County Council.

According to a layout plan submitted alongside the application, there will be five outdoor tables along the front of the store.

The external seating area won't extend to more than 0.5m away from the store.

The consultation period ended on July 15.

No representations in support or to object have been made.

The county council aims to make a decision an applications within 7 days.

New legislation came into force last year allowing businesses to apply for a Pavement Licence to place removable furniture on certain highways adjacent to their premises for the purpose of selling, serving or consuming food and drink outdoors.

The licences are a temporary measure brought in to support businesses serving food and drink to survive the pandemic.

The measures will remain in force until September 30, 2022.
