A YOUTH HOSTEL in the region is ready to welcome back guests following a recent refurbishment.

Greenhead Youth Hostel has over the last year undergone a sizeable makeover and is now able to welcome the public to stay overnight.

“Anyone can come and stay, but predominantly its for walkers because of the nature of it,” said Jordan Dodwell from the Hostel.

“A lot of people walk Hadrian’s Wall every single day.

“We took over the lease last year at the same time as the hotel.

“The size of it is so big. It’s an old church - you can see in the main room where the pool table is how high the ceilings are.”

Jordan, who also runs the Greenhead Hotel in the village, has planned for the buildings to work together over the coming months.

“It gives us a bit of overflow for the hotel as well for walk-ins - it sounds a bit silly getting walk ins at Greenhead but its surprising there seems to be a lot of people who walk the Pennine Way without exactly knowing where they’re going to stop,” explained Jordan.

“We’re also planning buffet menus which we’re going to run alongside the hostel so people can book the hostel in big groups and we’ve got a function room in the hotel so we can feed them breakfast, lunch and dinner and either sit down meals or cheaper buffet options.

“The kitchen (in the hostel) is big. It’s fully equipped so there’s no pressure but we want to give people the option to be able to eat with us.

“We’re really trying to link it up with the hotel and let people know they’re more than welcome at the hotel when they’re staying over at the hostel.

“(We have done) a lot of painting - that was the main thing! We painted the whole place then we turned into an old store room into something we’re calling a quiet room.

“There’s the big communal area which if there’s 40 odd people in there its going to be noisy. There’s a pool table, a TV, table football. It’s where everyone’s going to be chilling after coming back in from the day.”

Bookings for Greenhead Hostel are now available online at www.greenheadbrampton.co.uk.

“But we’ve created a quiet room with sofas and some coffee tables in with the aim of peopel being able to go in there and play a quiet game or read a book or even just chill away from the noise.”

It gives people another option if they don’t just want to lie on their bed in the dorms.

We’ve also fitted a brand new kitchen which was one of the main things we wanted to do. We painted all the beds.

We took it over in the middle of the pandemic and shared accomodation hasn’t been able to open until May 17 when resturants were allowed to open. It was allowed to open then but we hadn’t finished the refurb until the back end of June about a month later.

We took the lease over on June 14 2020.
