A TYNEDALE athlete has secured his spot in a European championship event after a number of strong performances.

Dan Joyce will fly to Tallinn in Estonia to take part in the European U20 championships to contest the 800 meters event after successfully meeting his needed qualifying time during a recent British Miles Club meeting.

Selections for the European U20 championship were made just a few days after the British event that took place at Stretford on June 29, with Joyce's 1:48.60 enough to beat the required time.

Joyce, who in the last full athletics season in 2019 was the North East Counties U17 800m champion, is set to take part in the event in Estonia which takes place between July 15-18.

The opening round of the 800m takes place on Friday, with the semi-final and final taking place across the weekend.
