A HOUSING association is inviting customers to become part of a new project to look at how housing organisations can tackle climate change.

Karbon Homes are inviting people to join The Social Housing Tenants’ Climate Jury.

It will involve customers from Karbon and four other housing associations: First Choice Homes, Salix Homes, Thirteen Group and Yorkshire Housing.

The project is being led by the Northern Housing Consortium who represent the views of housing organisations in the North of England. Up to 30 customers will be selected in total to consider how residents, social landlords and others can work together to tackle climate change.

The jury will look at retrofitting to understand tenants’ preferences on how this work should be undertaken in their homes.

Retrofitting homes could involve making a home easier to heat with insulation or upgrading a heating system in order to make homes greener and warmer.

Shared Future is one of the UK’s leading experts in organising citizens’ juries and will be facilitating and running the sessions.

Karbon will be sending 1,500 letters inviting customers to register their interest in becoming part of the Social Housing Tenants’ Climate Jury.

Of those who register to take part, Shared Future will then select six people from each housing association who reflect the diversity of residents living within social housing, both in terms of demographic make-up and their opinions on climate change.

The Tenants’ Jury will meet ten times over the summer for 30 hours’ worth of deliberation.

Participants will receive £250 worth of vouchers as a thank you for their time.

The final report and recommendations of the Social Housing Tenants’ Climate Jury will be launched at the Northern Housing Consortium’s flagship Northern Housing Summit in November.
