English Heritage and Go North East are teaming up to launch a new bus service this summer.

Designed to connect Newcastle City Centre with Belsay Hall in Northumberland, the new route has been designed to encourage visitors to the popular location not to travel in their cars.

A total of four return journeys will take place at weekends throughout both July and August between Newcastle's Haymarket bus station to the Hall, located near Morpeth, with the scheme also hoping to appeal to travellers who don't have access to a vehicle.

“This is a super initiative in getting our visitors to leave their cars at home whilst also encouraging those without their own transport, to make use of this service," said Lynn Rylance, Head of Historic Properties at English Heritage.

A family ticket for the new route will cost £12 with a 20% discount to the Hall also being included as part of the price.

The new scheme is part of the Belsay Awakes project that aims to transform Belsay Hall over the next year using National Lottery Heritage funding.

"We're delighted to be working with English Heritage and Belsay to provide a convenient and sustainable mode of transport to Belsay from Newcastle City Centre," added Stephen King, Commercial Director at Go North East.
