A TYNEDALE business has been forced to close its restaurant and bar after a staff member tested positive for coronavirus.

The Greenhead Hotel, near Haltwhistle, will have its bar and restaurant closed until Wednesday, July 7.

The business shared a post on its social media platforms yesterday (June 28) informing customers of the news.

It said: “Unfortunately a key member of our team has tested positive for COVID-19.

“We have identified all our staff members who have been in close contact with this person and instructed them to self isolate. Due to us being a small hotel this has resulted in the vast majority of our team entering isolation.

“Therefore, following government guidance, we have been left with no other option but to close our restaurant and bar. We will still be operating as bed and breakfast and we will be calling all affected customers as soon as possible.

“We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding in these testing times.

“We will be re opening on Wednesday 7th July at 18:00 and we hope to see you all again soon.”

Owner of The Greenhead Jordan Dodwell meanwhile added: “We had this issue a few weeks ago with Vercelli in Hexham and we had to close there and now we had to close the restaurant and bar but thankfully we are still operating.

“We have got enough staff to operate the bed and breakfast but even then its not ideal.

“I’m actually just in the middle of calling guests who are booked with us for the next week obviously to let them know they can still stay for bed and breakfast but you know when you book a hotel most of the time you pay for a package and you expect to be able to go downstairs and have a drink and go downstairs and have evening food.

“Especially when we’re rural as well its not as if you can just walk across the road and get some food elsewhere. It’s very difficult to try and explain to people.

“Most people are understanding. It’s out of our control at the end of the day. I’m not doing it out of a choice.”

The Greenhead Hotel is set to reopen its bar and restaurant on July 7 at 6pm.
