A North East festival has announced the return of live music in the line-up for its annual festival.

Summer Streets Festival, which is based in Sunderland, is an arts and community festival that is free to attend and will host arrange of events both in-person and online this July.

The line-up includes heavy metal band Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs, who will headline the first ever gig in Sunderland’s Pop Recs Ltd, alongside experimental jazz trio Archipelago and indie-punks Roxy Girls.

Also performing will be Mercury Prize nominees Lanterns on the Lake, the Royal Northern Sinfonia, the New York Brass Band, and UK beatboxing champion Grace Savage.

Aside from music, there’ll be a creative online journaling workshop and events online to keep an eye out for.

Ross Millard, festival organiser and guitarist from The Futureheads, said: “It is really important to Summer Streets Festival that we are able to bring live music back to the programme this year.

“By hosting events both in-person and online, we hope that everyone will find a way to access and enjoy the festival.

“We’ve organised some very special gigs with some of the most exciting artists in the region, interactive workshops and local, national and international artists as part of the line-up.

“The festival is completely free to access and we’re hopefully that everyone will find something going on at Summer Streets that they can get involved with.”

Summer Streets Festival will be held from July 16 – 19 in multiple locations across Sunderland, as well as on YouTube and Facebook. More information can be found at www.summerstreetsfestival.com
