PONTELAND’S local MP has visited a campus at Northumberland’s only further education college.

Mr Opperman visited Northumberland College’s Kirkley Hall Campus with Ponteland Councillors Lyle Darwin and Richard Dodd to meet the new principal and for a tour and to discuss how the college has progressed since its merger in 2019.

The visit emphasised the importance of Further Education Colleges playing a signicant role in the recovery of the economy from the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Northumberland College will play a crucial role in creating the skills for the future as we recover from the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I welcome the engagement Nigel has shown towards local representatives, community groups, and employers to ensure that our young people acquire the skills needed to be successful.”

Cllr Lyle Darwin said: “It was great to visit the College to see the diverse range of courses available for students. Northumberland College will be vital in our economic recovery from Covid.”

Cllr Richard Dodd said: “It was great to see the progress and to catch up with the whole team at Kirkley Hall.”
