A fair has been scaled back due to the delay in lifting Coronavirus restrictions.

It was announced in the Hexham Courant on Monday that Hexham Middle School had intended to hold a ‘Fair-well’ event to mark its forthcoming departure from its existing site, originally scheduled for July 10.

Staff, pupils, and parents were invited to a summer fair ahead of the school’s move to a new building on the Queen Elizabeth High School site.

However, due to the Government’s recent announcement on restrictions relating to the Covid-19 pandemic, the fair will not go ahead as planned.

Instead, the traditional ‘fair’ element of the event will move to a school day and be for HMS pupils only, with the ‘farewell’ element moving online, to be promoted via the school’s website and social media so that past and present pupils and staff can still enjoy a trip down memory lane.

Mr Watters, current Deputy Head at Hexham Middle School and new Head of School from September, said: “We are really disappointed that we are no longer able to run the event as originally planned.

“However, we are still determined to mark the end of what has been a wonderful period of time on our current site, and I’m hugely grateful to our fantastic PTA and staff for the way they have adapted to the changed circumstances.

“We shall issue more details shortly as to how people can access the online content and we would encourage those with a connection to the school, past or present, to send us memories and photographs to memories@hexhammiddle.org.uk.”
