The NHS are asking for more Steward Volunteers across the county to come forward and help in the wake of high demand for help.

The NHS Volunteer Responders are now asking for further assistance in a number of locations, with 2,000 shifts currently needing filled every day nationwide.

With the Covid-19 vaccination programme well underway, the NHS is in need of further assistance from steward volunteers to help more of the nation get their jabs against Covid-19.

The job of a Steward Volunteer is to help support patients when going for their vaccine and to ensure they are able to move safely while at a vaccine centre.

“We find ourselves at a crucial moment in the vaccination rollout," said Catherine Johnstone CBE, Chief Executive of the Royal Voluntary Service.

"There is a real urgency to this, and we are working at pace to get all adults vaccinated as fast as possible.

"There is a particular need for steward volunteers to help the vaccination programme reach communities most in need.

"If you are able to help by joining the team, please don’t hesitate. Together we can get the jabs done.”

Two locations in need of further assistance from stewards include the Hexham Mart vaccination centre and the Wellway Pharmacy in Morpeth.

Shifts as a steward last up to six hours with expenses also being covered and no prior experience is needed.
