BEER and long-distance running may not typically go hand in hand but a Northumberland brewer is making it his mission to combine the two.

Matthew Brown, of The Twice Brewed Brew House, has launched a second collaboration with No Club Running Club (NCRC), Gateshead, while also announcing prize sponsorship of the recent Ultra North Race and the upcoming Vindolanda 10k.

Founded by graphic designer Alan Wardle, NCRC is an online running community with an ever-growing range of sportswear merchandise.

A keen ultra-marathon runner, Matthew is pleased his work and hobby can come together in successful fashion.

He said: “Earlier in the year, we launched our first collaboration with the NCRC and it was really popular.

“Alan (Wardle, founder of NCRC) and I quickly decided we’d like to do another one and we think we’ve come up with something people will like.”

Launched at an event at the Staithes Café, cans of Jelly Legs – described as a fruity Kolsch – are now on sale alongside a limited edition NCRC / Twice Brewed t-shirt design.

Matthew added: “While the first collaboration was a bit of a pilot project with around 200 cans of beer produced, this time around, we’ve done a full brew, so there’s more like 1,000 cans.”

As well as selling the new Jelly Legs brew, Matthew has also been packaging some up to give to some of the region’s best runners.
