A NORTHUMBERLAND architect starred on BBC One’s Your Home Made Perfect on Bank Holiday Monday.

Lynsey Elliott, of Elliott Architects in Corbridge, went up against rival architect Will Foster to remodel Lisa and Judy’s home in Gosport in Hampshire.

Using virtual reality, Lynsey remodelled the home’s ground floor by using an extension to add both height and light to the home, creating a kitchen diner looking out onto the soon-to-be grandparents’ garden.

Lynsey said: “We got to walk around their house on our own first to gauge our initial reactions, commenting on what works, what doesn’t, and taking on board the clients’ style and taste. We spent about an hour with the clients understanding their brief and aspirations for the project.”

“I focused on space, natural light and connection with the garden. Lisa and Judy entertain a great deal and Judy is a great cook, she wanted a space that functions well practically day to day as well as being stylish to cater to the party lovers in them.”

Taking the above into account, Lynsey’s big stylish kitchen and dining room was one of the major parts that won over Lisa and Judy, with them plumping for her design.

Lynsey continued: “I was obviously pleased to win but it was interesting to see the similarities in how we both approached the strategy.

“It was the interpretation of finish that I think made my scheme pip him to the post.

“I think we got on and understood what each other wanted to achieve. The relationship between client and architect is very important, you need to trust each other for at truly successful outcome.

“I think they liked my interpretation of their style, retaining texture and pattern through material and light as well as satisfying the practical criteria of their brief.”

And of course, Your Home Made Perfect isn’t just about seeing what a house could be. Once Lisa and Judy had chosen Lynsey’s design, work begun.

Lynsey finished by saying: “That’s the great thing about being an architect – we see our ideas realised on a daily basis.”

The Third Series of Your Home Made Perfect is presented by Angela Scanlon and airs at BBC2 on Monday nights at 8pm.
