Developers have unveiled further plans for a proposed housing development in Ponteland.

Plans for 65 new affordable homes have been put forward for land at the southern end of Western Way in Darras Hall.

However, the plot for the proposed development sits outside of the boundary for the Darras Hall Estate Byelaws.

Developers have attempted to reassure existing residents that the new homes will be designed to fit in with the local area.

At the same time, developers have said that the main aim of the planned development is to allow local people who have had to move out of the area to find accommodation that meets their needs, to return back to their roots, whether that be local young people starting out on the property ladder or those that wish to downsize to more suitable accommodation.

The proposal is headed up by construction firm Esh Living, architects IDPartnership, and housing association Karbon Homes.

The plans include 10 two-bedroom bungalows, 24 three-bedroom homes, 7 two-bedroom homes, and 24 two-bedroom apartments aimed at retirees.

Laura Devaney, Head of Land and Partnerships at Esh Living, said: “We want to provide reassurance that our consultation process is centred around listening to the views of local people and the community, and all feedback will be reviewed as part of any future application.

“We have had a positive response from a number of local people, including those living in rented accommodation, who are keen to get on to the property ladder and remain in their community, as well as feedback from those who wish to downsize from larger accommodation and remain in the area close to family.”

“The scheme has been designed to provide good quality housing and minimise environmental impact with a driver to address a number of housing needs for the local community.”

A website has been created as a pre-planning public consultation, where residents are encouraged to give their thoughts and comments on the scheme.
