A FIRE at a village's pavilion is being investigated.
Northumbria Police received a report of the fire at the disused pavilion on Corchester Playing Field in Corbridge on Thursday evening.
It comes after trees in the memorial garden in the village were destroyed earlier in the week.
Nick Oliver, County Councillor for Corbridge, said: "This is another really sad and mindless act of vandalism in Corbridge following so soon after trees in our memorial garden were damaged.
"Whoever did this ripped wooden panelling off the wall and set it alight.
"We're grateful to the Northumberland Fire Service who prevented the total destruction of the building and to Northumbria Police who are showing a keen interest in catching the perpetrators.
"We are planning a refurbishment project on this building to bring the pavilion back into community use and this incident puts this at risk.
"I urge anybody with information to call 101."
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: βAt about 10.30pm on Thursday we received a report of a fire at a disused building on Corbridge Field.
"Emergency services attended the scene and enquiries around the circumstances of the fire are ongoing.
"Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact police through our website, or by calling 101, and quoting log 1305 28/05/21.β
