THE leader of Northumberland County Council will be decided in due course - but the current leader is expected to keep the role.
Glen Sanderson was re-elected as county councillor for Longhorsley, and it is anticipated he will be re-elected as chairman of the council when Northumberland Tories meet to decide the leadership.
Coun. Sanderson was made chairman after former leader Peter Jackson lost his seat last year after a vote of no confidence from fellow councillors.
And after Coun. Sanderson regained his seat by gaining 1,240 votes, whilst Ian Lindley, of the Labour Party received 311 votes and Liberal Democrat Andrew Findlay received 124, he is anticipated to be re-elected.
During the election night, Coun. Sanderson said: “Hopefully we will get a clear result one way or another so the council can continue the vital services that it does in a clear way.”
Coun. Richard Dodd, who represents Ponteland North, is expected to keep his position as deputy to the leader too.
A date of the leadership vote has yet to be confirmed.
