Just a handful of new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Northumberland in the latest daily stats released by the government.

Only six new cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in the county, meaning the total number of positive coronavirus cases in Northumberland since the pandemic began last March is now 17,566.

Further good news has also been confirmed in the latest daily statistics released by NHS England as nobody has died in relation to Covid-19 in Northumbria Healthcare hospitals in the last 24 hours.

The news means the death toll in Northumberland in relation to Covid remains at 728 since the pandemic began.

No wards in the region – therefore including in both the Tyne Valley and Ponteland – have more than four cases of Covid-19 after the latest information was released by Northumbria County Council.

In the UK, more than 16.5 million people have now had their second jab against coronavirus.
