READERS of the Hexham Courant online took to social media to share their views on the news that secondary school pupils could be offered the Covid vaccine from September under NHS plans.

It comes after The Sunday Times reported health service officials are compiling planning documents which include a measure to offer a single dose of the Pfizer jab to children aged 12 and older when the new school year starts.

MARK ATKINSON SAID: “I’d rather have my child vaccinated to reduce their risk of debilitating long covid and passing on the virus to her family.”

MARJORIE BARKER SAID: “I think the vaccine needs more testing before it is given to children, what about future pregnancies? It hasn’t been tested on pregnant woman yet.”

CHARLOTTE MOUNTFORD SAID: “Maybe lets sort the teachers first? and let trials complete and be analysed for under 18s?!”

ANGELA LITTLE SAID: “I am currently living in the Middle East and my son has just been vaccinated, he will receive his second vaccine in two weeks.”

“Most students 16+ have been given the choice. It’s also mandatory to wear a mask everywhere, unless you’re in your own home.”
