Book lovers in the region will be able to discover new books from Northern authors through a new reading campaign.
Read Regional, which was founded by New Writing North in 2008, is a celebration of ten books penned by writers from the north of England.
It involves Northumberland Libraries, who will host two Zoom events as part of the campaign. This current campaign is a continuation of last year’s, when Covid restrictions prevented planned visits by CJ Cooke and Horatio Clare to Northumberland’s libraries.
Instead, Cooke will be speaking about her psychological thrillers The Blame Game and The Nesting with Jackie Kaines Lang on Thursday May 13 at 7pm.
On the following Wednesday, Horatio Clare will discuss his travelogue about Finland ‘Icebreaker’ with Sheilagh Matheson, in addition to his recently published ‘Heavy Light, a Journey through Madness Mania and Healing.’ Icebreaker has already won a Somerset Maugham award.
As well as the events hosted by Northumberland Libraries, there will be events featuring a further eight authors from April to June, where they will talk about their writing processes as well as answer questions from readers. Read Regional has previously profiled authors such as AA Dhand and Jenn Ashworth.
Tickets for the events hosted by Northumberland Libraries are available through Eventbrite.
