AN APPLICATION to construct a single residential dwelling in a Tyne Valley village has been submitted.

Richard and Jennifer Page are asking Northumberland County Council for permission to build the home on land east of East Rigg, at Long Rigg, in Riding Mill.

According to the design and access statement, submitted on the Pages behalf by Steena Steward Architect, of Corbridge: "The proposal is for a single residential dwelling with the desire for a well-built modest, sustainable home which both conveys and compliments the varied appearance of the neighbouring properties.

"The materials used are of a traditional palette, using rustic red brick with a natural slate roof. Windows are traditional sash design of a high quality uPVC with larger windows wrapping the corner to the north-east to take advantage of the extensive views."

The planning application also claims the the proposed building would have a footprint of 163m² but with the garage and the utility elements being only single storey.

Lawned gardens would be retained to the front of the dwelling, with the tree/shrub clad lower north part of the site retained with shrubs.

The two silver birch trees with tree preservation orders on the southern boundary would be protected throughout construction in accordance with BS5387 and would be retained.

Internally, there is a large open plan kitchen/living area spanning the rear of the dwelling. Corner windows to the north and east allow the magnificent view over the valley to be appreciated in the living area and the master bedroom above.

The access drive-way would be permeable gravel to assist run-off, with tarmac adjoining the road as stipulated in the previous application. Paths and patios would be a mixture of gravel and flagstones to frame the building and to complement the building’s materials.

The application has taken into account the terms set out in the granting of a n application for a dwelling on the site which was approved in 2019.

That application was for the proposed construction of a two storey single dwelling in garden.
