A POPULAR Hexham restaurant is set to host guests in style – by adding a rooftop terrace.

The entirety of French restaurant Bouchon Bistrot, on Gilesgate, is also undergoing refurbishment ahead of its reopening next month.

Owner Greg Bureau said they plan to open during the week beginning May 24.

He added that the two-storey rooftop terrace will be ready to open at the beginning of June.

“It’s still a massive building site at the minute but it’s on the right track,” said Greg.

Greg, who opened the restaurant nearly 14 years ago, said it was “time to do something different”.

He added the terrace has had great local support.

“We hope it’s going to attract new customers as well as our current customers,” he added.

“The idea of the restaurant will be the same, we are not changing what has worked.”

A ‘glass room’, with three of its walls made out of glass, will open up to the terrace.

The terrace will sit around 20 people.

It will be south facing, with views over the town, including of Hexham Abbey.

Throughout lockdown, the restaurant has served takeaways on Fridays and Saturdays.

Greg said: “We are hoping to have a bright summer and enjoy life again.”

Bouchon Bistrot’s diary is open to take bookings now, including for weddings and parties.
