A Tynedale minister has received a special honour at Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant Awards.
Supernumerary Minister, the Rev. Tony Buglass, who has worked as the ATC Squadron chaplain throughout the pandemic, was presented with a Certificate of Meritorious Service at a ceremony on Tuesday evening, which was streamed online.
Rev. Buglass has kept in contact with the ATC Squadron over the pandemic through Facebook, by posting quizzes, jokes, and padre’s messages.
He was presented with his award by the Duchess of Northumberland, Jane Percy, and said that he was honoured to receive such an award.
“It all came right out of the blue – a lovely surprise,” he said.
“There are a number of recipients, mainly uniformed staff, and I’m the only chaplain.”
Rev. Buglass, who became a Christian in his late teens, has served in various districts across Newcastle and Yorkshire, and has been a chaplain in hospitals, prisons, and the RAF.
In addition to handing out the Certificate of Meritorious Service to Rev. Buglass, the Duchess appointed her Lord Lieutenant’s Cadets at the ceremony.
She has been the Duchess of Northumberland since 2009, and is the first woman serve as Lord Lieutenant of Northumberland. She is married to Ralph Percy, the 12th Duke of Northumberland.
