Organisations across the Tyne Valley have paid tribute to The Duke of Edinburgh Prince Philip, who has died today at the age of 99.

Northumberland County Council tweeted: "On behalf of everyone at Northumberland County Council we are saddened by the news of His Royal Highness, Prince Phillip.

“We send our sincere condolences and thoughts to the Royal Family at this sad time."

While Northumbria Police tweeted: "We're saddened to hear of the death of His Royal Highness Prince Philip.

“Our thoughts are with Her Majesty the Queen, and the entire Royal Family, at this difficult time."

The duke died peacefully at Windsor Castle this morning (April 9) after previously returning to his home following a stay in hospital.

Police and crime commissioner for Northumbria, Kim McGuinness said: "My thoughts and condolences are with Her Majesty The Queen and The Royal Family. HRH The Duke of Edinburgh was by The Queen’s for over 70 years, he was a public servant for almost all of that and served in the @RoyalNavy. An incredibly sad day for The Queen and for our nation."

Throughout Friday, organisations across Northumberland continued paying tribute to Prince Phillip, including Northumbria NHS who tweeted: "From everyone at Northumbria, we send our deepest condolences to the Royal Family during this difficult time."

They were also joined by the North East Ambulance Service who added in a tweet: "Sending our sincere condolences from everyone at North East Ambulance Service."

Hexham Abbey and the The Rev’d David Glover also tweeted their condolences: "It was with great sadness that I heard of the death of HRH Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.

“My thoughts and prayers are very much with HM The Queen, and her family, and I would commend the following prayer for use at this time. The Rev’d David Glover Chaplain to the Queen"

Northumbrian Water were another group to send their best wishes and added: "Everyone at Northumbrian Water are deeply saddened to learn that His Royal Highness Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh has passed away.

"Our thoughts and condolences are with Her Majesty The Queen and the Royal Family at this sad time."

We’re sad to hear that HRH Duke of Edinburgh has died – he took such pleasure from spending time in nature. May he rest in peace.

The Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service also confirmed the flags at their Cramlington headquarters have been lowered to half mast to mark the passing of Prince Philip.
