WITH the sad news of Prince Philip's death, aged 99, we've taken a look back at when the Duke of Edinburgh visited Northumberland.

His Royal Highness has undertaken countless engagements over the years, seeing him travel across the country but also take in local sites in the Tyne Valley and across Northumberland.

In this album, we remember when Their Royal Highnesses the Queen and Prince Philip opened Kielder Reservoir back in the 80s.

In 1958, the Royal yacht Britannia anchored off the north Northumberland coast and their Majesties visited Holy Island.

The Queen and Prince Philip also once visited Ponteland, officially opening the Northumbria Police HQ.

And in 2011, the royal couple went to Alnwick to open the town's youth hostel and tour the castle and gardens.

Did you meet the Royals on any of their visits or have any more photos to share? Leave them in the comments below.
