Another of the region’s annual shows has had to be cancelled for a second year running due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Bellingham Show, which usually takes place every August, will now not go ahead due to the uncertainty surrounding the ongoing Covid crisis, with the organisers now focusing on a strong return in 2022.

Writing in a statement on social media, the show said:

“Unfortunately, the deeply regrettable decision not to run Bellingham Show this year has been taken.

“The ongoing coronavirus pandemic means the near future is too uncertain to plan and financial commit to the 2021 show.

“The safety of everyone involved and the safety of our local community is paramount and all this must be taken into consideration.

“Although the vaccination programme is progressing well and the Government has announced its road map to recovery, we must be mindful that this is still very much open to change.”

Although this year’s event won’t go ahead, the committee behind the show have already began planning for August 2022 and are hoping to help celebrate a big birthday for The North Tyne and Redesdale Agricultural Society.

“2022 is the 180th anniversary of The North Tyne and Redesdale Agricultural Society.  The committee are fully committed to ensuring an all singing, all dancing celebratory show goes ahead next year,” they added.

“We hope you understand this decision, whilst it is disappointed for all concerned, we believe this is the best and safest option for this year.

“We look forward to seeing you on Saturday 27th August 2022.”

Bellingham Show is one of the most popular events in the Tyne Valley and sees thousands of people attend every year.
