A NEW look is planned for the front of one of Hexham's most historic pubs.

A total of seven new signs are proposed for the exterior of the Globe Inn, on the town's Battle Hill, to breathe life into the appearance of the building.

National pub business, Star Bars, has applied to Northumberland County Council for listed building consent for the new signs, three of which would be illuminated.

The pub's main sign would be replaced with timber and glass fascia with reverse chisel letters, and a new, traditional style brass lantern would be positioned on to the glass fascia and provide illumination on to the entrance doorway to assist with a safe passage for customers when entering or leaving the property at night.

A new, illuminated 3D sculpture of the pub's logo is also planned.

There would also be a new design for the existing frosted window vinyls, and the pub's existing history board would be refurbished and reinstated in the same position.

Meanwhile, signwriting above the arch would be replaced too.

The planning application states: "This development has been proposed due to the age/condition of the existing signs and decoration. The external appearance of the building is very tired and in need of an uplift."
