A TYNE Valley electrician is in the running to be a national award winner.

Wayne Bond, of Prudhoe, is a finalist in the SGS Local Hero Awards 2021.

Earlier this year, the company launched its inaugural Local Hero Awards to recognise tradespeople who had gone above and beyond to help their community during the Covid-19 pandemic.

As manufacturers and suppliers of air compressors, gas struts, tool chests, power tools, garage equipment, garden tools and much more to the trade, SGS has been buoyed by the incredible, thoughtful contribution of those working in the industry – the builders, plumbers, electricians, joiners, gardeners and mechanics – who have done so much to help during this difficult time.

Wayne, of Bond Electrical, was nominated by a customer who felt he had gone above and beyond to help them and their mother during a difficult time. He was very responsive, arrived quickly on the job, fixed it, and then did not charge the customer for the work. He also helped several other elderly customers who were worried and panicked; rushing over to get the job done and saving several people a huge bill.

The team at SGS and experts at Kielder chose the finalists. Voting closes on March 28 and the overall national winner and regional finalists will be announced on Wednesday 31.

Awards Prizes include: Overall national winner: £1,000 cash prize and a Kielder flight case tool kit worth £539.99 and five regional runners up: Each receiving £250 in cash.
