The Allendale Challenge 2021 event has been cancelled.

Everybody who was signed up for the event will be automatically deferred to next year’s event, organisers North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team said in a Facebook post.

If they don’t wish to participate next year, they are offering a full refund of their entry fee.

The challenge, considered by many to be one of the toughest challenge walks, raises funds for the rescue team.

The 26 mile (42km) course is very popular and sells out every year.

The route is an anti-clockwise loop from Allendale town, taking in Hard Rigg, Black Hill, and Kilhope Law before returning to the town via Spartylea, The Drag, and Ladelwell.

The 31st Allendale Challenge is provisionally set to take place on Saturday, April 2 2022.

Entries for the event are now open, and the entry fee is £35.
