IT is understood an electrical fault caused a car to burst into flames in Hexham town centre.
Footage of the dramatic incident, which happened in Hexham Market Place on Monday evening, was captured on video and posted on social media.
It showed fire crews dealing with flames up to 10ft high as they attended to the blaze.
Northumberland Fire & Rescue Service said it received a call at 6.23pm on Monday, and deployed one fire crew from Hexham. The fire was extinguished and the wreckage of the car was later removed.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said it was understood that nobody was hurt in the incident, which happened close to the historic Shambles structure in the Market Place.
The spokesperson added: "Shortly after 6.30pm on Monday we received a report of a car on fire at Market Place, Hexham.
"Nobody was injured and emergency services attended to put out the blaze.
"It is understood the fire started because of an electrical fault."
