A TOWN councillor has revealed his intention to stand in the county council elections.

Prudhoe Town Councillor Chris Barrett serves the Castle & Eltringham ward of the town but now also hopes to represent Stocksfield and Broomhaugh at Northumberland County Council level.

The Cycling Without Age chair of trustees said: “I grew up in Stocksfield and am extremely fond of the area. I have been approached by several residents in Stocksfield, Riding Mill and the local area who asked me to stand as their councillor and this is an opportunity which I relish.

“Stocksfield and Broomhaugh is a fantastic place to live and work and I intend to make it even better. I will be proactive in striving for major improvements in the area and helping to improve the lifestyle of all residents.”

The Stocksfield and Broomhaugh seat is currently held by independent Coun. Anne Dale, who has announced she is to also stand.

She said: “It would be a privilege to continue as the county councillor for the residents of Stocksfield, Mickley and Riding Mill during these difficult and uncertain times ahead.

“There are lots of projects in the pipeline including the introduction of full fibre broadband to the villages, flood management plans, road safety measures and by working together. We can achieve so much more for the benefit of everyone.”

The county and parish council elections will go ahead as planned – with safety measures in place - but voters are being encouraged to make use of the postal system. The police and crime commissioner elections and the Hexham planning referendum are also scheduled for May 6.
