Passengers at Newcastle International Airport will be able to fly direct to Frankfurt later this year after a deal was agreed with leading German airline Lufthansa.

From June 28, a new daily service will connect the North East’s premier airport with the German city that is extremely popular with both business and leisure visitors, with the location featuring various museums, a vibrant art scene, several vineries in the Rheingau region and more.

Frankfurt Airport also plays host to the German airline’s biggest travel hub, meaning – when travel restrictions begin to ease over the next few months – passengers will also then be able to travel all over the world easily and quickly having started their journey in the North East.

“We are delighted to welcome Lufthansa back to Newcastle International Airport and it is fantastic news for the North East and beyond that the airline will be operating this new daily service to Frankfurt,” said Nick Jones, Chief Executive of Newcastle International Airport

“The addition of this route not only provides a new direct destination, but also access to another major global hub for the North East public from the Airport.”

Four days a week, flights will depart Frankfurt at 16:10 to Newcastle, with the return taking place at 17:35 from the North East, while on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, flights will depart Frankfurt at 10:20 and Newcastle at 12:15.

We can offer a huge connectivity as we take advantage of our hub system in Frankfurt,” added Andreas Köster, Senior Director Sales UK, Ireland & Iceland, Lufthansa Group.

“Lufthansa can provide more than hundred connections beyond Frankfurt to all relevant destinations world-wide, just with one single transit.

“We are very happy to return this upcoming summer, reconnect Newcastle International Airport to our huge network and resume our connection for our customers in North East England."

Flights for the new service start from £89 for a roundtrip, with tickets available to be purchased online at Lufthansa.com now.
