HEXHAM’S MP and a constituent classed as vulnerable have shared their experiences of receiving the Covid-19 vaccination, in the hope that it might put those worried about receiving it at ease.

26-year-old Edward Common and Hexham’s MP Guy Opperman have shared their experience of the Covid-19 vaccination, with both men having now received their jabs.

Ed has stayed in his bedroom since the pandemic began to shield from Covid, with only his mother Lorna having any direct contact with him over the last few months.

Now however - after a recent story in the Courant - Ed has had his vaccination and recently took part in a video call with Mr Opperman to discuss his experience of the jab.

Guy, who also recently revealed he is clinically vulnerable following a horse riding accident 15 years ago where he lost his spleen and is now immuno-compromised, has also had his vaccination, with both men using the chat to emphasise the importance of getting the vaccine.

“We have vaccinated more than 13.5 million people so far, which is incredible and thanks to the huge efforts of the NHS, volunteers and local authorities,” said Guy.

“Vaccines are safe, simple, and the way out of this pandemic. By ensuring you and your loved ones get booked in for a jab, the NHS can give those most at-risk, like Edward and myself, the protection we need as we continue to fight this disease together.”

Ed’s mother Lorna was delighted with Ed receiving the vaccine and added: “Edward’s vaccine means everything to us.”

“The more people who have the vaccine, the quicker we can return to normal. It’s the only way we can stamp out this devastating virus.”

Ed meanwhile also wanted to stress just how pain free getting the vaccine is following his jab.

“It didn’t hurt a bit. We should all get it,” he added.

When asked by Mr Opperman what he was most looking forward to doing when we come out of lockdown, Edward said “I want to be able to live with the rest of my family in the house, go out, meet up with my friends and do what young people do.

“ I also want to get back to playing powerchair football, both for the Northern Thunder club and England.”
