A COUNTY Councillor is calling for a road safety zone near a Tyne Valley school.
Coun. Gordon Stewart, who represents Prudhoe South, has raised concerns about the increase in road traffic along Moor Road, in Prudhoe, - particularly close to Prudhoe Community High School.
He said: "The vast majority of vehicles are driven carefully and adhering to the speed limit, but I have spoken with several local residents who have raised the issue of excessive speed and inconsiderate parking which adds to the potential dangers.
"I have asked Northumberland County Council officers to look at a range of measures which may assist in reducing risks to people or property, there will probably be a consultation process to undertake dependent upon the recommendations.
"I am delighted that my plea to the County Council for funding for this scheme has already been agreed in principle."
