Your regular, EU-loving correspondent Mr Pugh of Slaley maintains that Brexit was against the will of the British people, citing the results of public opinion polls, notoriously unreliable.

Since the 2016 referendum, we have had two national polls in which the question of Brexit featured.

In the 2017 General Election 80 per cent of the votes cast were for the two main parties, Labour & Conservative, both campaigning to implement the referendum result.

In the 2019 General Election, the Conservatives ran on a single slogan of ‘Get Brexit Done’, against the Liberals and various nationalist parties committed to remaining in the EU (Labour’s position was ambiguous).

The Conservatives won with an 80 seat majority.

The various pro-EU defectors and the Liberal leader all lost their seats.

I think the will of the British people was made quite clear.

Perhaps Mr Pugh would like to go and live in the EU and get his vaccination there – no doubt after a very long wait.

I’ll be staying in an independent Britain sourcing its own vaccine supplies.
