IT IS in with the new, and out with the old.

A planning application has been submitted to demolish the former Ponteland High School site in the town's Callerton Lane area.

The school building has become redundant following the recent creation of a school and leisure complex which saw the high school and middle school move on to one site, along with state of the art leisure complex.

Construction firm Kier has submitted the application to demolish the former building to clear the area of the structure.

The application said: "Our project team, led by senior project manager Roddy Graham, will be immediately available to answer any queries on the information set out within this document.

"Roddy will communicate with the local neighbours prior to commencement of the demolition phase and will attend any Local Community Meetings, coupled with the issue of regular newsletters to the local residents.

"The demolition of the old Ponteland High School is to be completed by the end of the second phase of the project. A detailed demolition method statement will be developed by the chosen demolition contractor, detailing the method by which the building is to be demolished."
