THERE’S nothing quite like a new arrival to spread some cheer, particularly in these tough times.

And the arrival of Azeeza alongside fellow newcomer Iniko has certainly done just that.

For just two months after Iniko the rhino was born, South Lakes Safari Zoo revealed Ntombi was born this week to bring two cute new additions to the zoo.

The rhinos, as can be expected, are popular additions at the attraction, and it is such a huge shame that the public are currently not allowed in to see how cute the two new additions are in person.

While the zoo may be closed to the public, their births have put a spring in the step of zoo workers who are eagerly anticipating the lifting of lockdown restrictions so people can again view these wonderful animals in their full glory.

While lockdown is tough on everybody, the new rhinos will give us more reason to look forward to finally being allowed back to doing the things we love most.

The species of rhino is listed as ‘critically endangered’ so the two new additions to the pack is hugely positive for the future of the animal.

It is amazing that these momentous births have happened on our doorsteps, and Cumbrians should be rightly proud of the role the zoo plays in animal conservation.

Not only that, the attraction brings in thousands of vital tourists to the area.

So let’s all make sure that a trip to the zoo is high on the agenda when lockdown is lifted, and we can continue to support a business which supports the economy.
