Hexham Courant readers have named East Tynedale as the best place to live in the Tyne Valley.

In a poll on our website last month, we asked readers to vote on the best area, and worst, to live in Tynedale.

And areas such as Prudhoe, Riding Mill, Stocksfield, Wylam and Ovingham came out on top, with 35 per cent of readers choosing East Tynedale as the best place to live.

Hexham and the surrounding area (Corbridge, Hexhamshire, Acomb and more), and The Allen Valleys (Allendale, Allenheads, Langley, Carrshields and more) came joint second, each gaining 22 per cent of the vote.

The Hadrian’s Wall Corridor (Haydon Bridge, Haltwhistle, Bardon Mill, Newborough, Fourstones and more) came fourth with 13 per cent of the vote, and the North Tyne and Redesdale (Bellingham, Wark, West Woodburn, Risdale, Otterburn) came last with 8 per cent.

Coun. Gordon Stewart, County Councillor for Prudhoe South, said: "I am delighted but not surprised that East Tynedale has received the most votes.

"We know that the whole of the county has many great attributes and qualities, but East Tynedale offers a range of business and employment opportunities along with beautiful countryside and warm friendly people."

Mayor of Prudhoe Coun. Tracy Gilmore echoed his comments and said: "Nobody could be prouder of Prudhoe than me.

"It has always been special but it is getting the recognition it needs."

Coun. Gilmore, who owns Gilmore Estates on Front Street, added she is seeing a huge increase in people wanting to move to the area.

"It’s bringing a lot more diversity."

Tony Richards, site manager at Essity Prudhoe Mill, said: "It's no surprise to learn that East Tynedale scored so highly in the poll - that is why I choose to live and work here myself.

"As Northumberland's second-largest manufacturing employer, and the only one to have won a Princess Royal training award for our apprenticeship scheme, I'm proud to be able to offer high-quality jobs to locals - and others choosing to relocate to the area."

Funnily enough, East Tynedale also received the most votes for our poll on the worst place to live.
