A WEATHER warning has been issued after parts of the Tyne Valley woke to a blanket of snow on Thursday morning.
Sleet and snow is expected to continue throughout the morning, with heavy snow in higher areas.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Northumberland, which came into force at 4am, and is scheduled to remain in place until 3pm on Thursday.
It was warned that heavy snow may lead to some travel disruption. Motorists and pedestrians have been urged to take extra care during their essential journeys.
