HEXHAM’S MP urged people to stand against prejudice, hostility and division on Holocaust Memorial Day.
Guy Opperman encouraged Tyne Valley residents to play their part in a UK-wide event on Wednesday evening, by lighting a candle in a window as an act of remembrance and solidarity.
Mr Opperman said: “I hope many people here in the Tyne Valley will join me in an act of remembrance, bearing witness for all those who have endured genocide and honouring survivors and all those whose lives have been changed beyond recognition.
“In a world that often feels fragile and vulnerable it continues to be really important that we all stand against prejudice, hostility and division.”
The event will take place between 7pm and 8pm on Wednesday. For more information https://www.hmd.org.uk/
Earlier on Wednesday, Northumberland County Council hosted a virtual memorial service in honour of those lost in the Holocaust and subsequent genocides.
