A TOURISM strategy and action plan for Hexham is now open for consultation.

A public survey for the initiative has been launched by Hexham Town Council's community engagement committee.

The committee's chairman, Coun. Tom Pearson said the strategy and action plan had been put together by a working group of experts and representatives of the tourism sector, and was now open for consultation.

Coun. Pearson added: "Recognising the value of tourism to the local economy, the town council welcomes the views of residents, businesses and community groups in Hexham in order to help shape the final version of the strategy which focuses both on the forthcoming tourist season (when restrictions allow) and also the longer term."

The consultation survey and associated documents can be found on the town council's website.

Coun. Pearson said all comments received would be taken into account in completing the final version of the strategy which would then be considered at the March meeting of the town council.

The consultation will run for three weeks until February 15.
