A ROAD in Dudley town centre will be one-way from Monday (January 25) as works continue at pace on the Wednesbury to Brierley Hill Metro extension.

Flood Street will be partially closed to allow Severn Trent Water to complete upgrades and diversions to the water main underneath the road.

The restrictions are expected to be in place for up to six weeks.

In order for the team to complete the work safely, a temporary lane restriction and one-way system will be in place with traffic flowing downhill towards Duncan Edwards Way.

There will be a clearly marked diversion route for those making essential journeys during current lockdown restrictions.

Councillor Ian Kettle, Dudley Council's cabinet member for regeneration and enterprise, said: "It’s pleasing to see the works on the Metro project - which will be a real game changer and deliver so many tangible benefits for the borough - are continuing at pace.

"With the current lockdown measures only allowing essential journeys, I am hoping the restrictions on Flood Street will not be as disruptive for motorists as they may have been during normal times.

"But we do want people to be aware of them, and to tailor their journeys accordingly."

Severn Trent is carrying out the work on behalf of Transport for West Midlands in line with the government’s social distancing guidelines.

The work schedule may be subject to change depending on the ongoing situation with Covid-19.
