A MAN has been given a conditional discharge for possessing heroin.
John Richie Carruthers (41), of Crossfield Terrace East, Haltwhistle, pleaded guilty at North Tyneside Magistrates' Court on Tuesday to possession of the Class A drug.
He had the drug in his possession on Main Street, in Haltwhistle, on August 22.
Carruthers was given a 12-month conditional discharge, and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £22.
Magistrates ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the heroin and its paraphernalia.
