THE growing popularity of football among young females has resulted in the formation of a senior women's team.
Despite Covid-19 disrupting the season, Heddon United FC have developed ten fold over the past 12 months with the unprecedented growth in their juniors teams as well as the establishment of three senior teams.
A main aim of the club is to develop the female section, and have proposed the formation of an adult women's team to complement the popularity of the girls' section, which includes teams at U7, U9 and U11 age categories.
Club chairman Liam Duffy said the team would fill a void in west Northumberland as he was aware of female players heading to elsewhere in the North-Eat to play football. He added: "We have already received some interest in the proposal, so in order to make this a viable opportunity we are now looking to recruit a coach or two as well as further the recruitment for players."
