A man found dead near Corbridge last week has been named.
The 51-year-old has been identified as Roger McArthur Speirs.
A large police presence was reported in Corbridge on Sunday, with officers stopping members of the public from entering Station Road.
It came after emergency services were called to the Corbridge area on Sunday, responding to reports of concern for a male.
Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Northumbria Police confirmed the news on Monday.
A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said: “Shortly after 2pm on Sunday we received a report of concern for the welfare of a man near the river at Station Road in Corbridge.
“Emergency services attended but sadly the man was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
“The man’s family are currently being supported by specialist officers.
“There is not believed to be any third party involvement and a report will be made for the coroner.”
The village has been rocked by the news, while messages of condolences flooded in when the news was broken.
