AN amber weather warning for snow has been issued for parts of the region.

The Met Office weather warning is in place from 3pm today (Wednesday) until 10am tomorrow (Thursday, January 14).

There is also a yellow, national, severe weather warning in place for snow and ice across large parts of England and Scotland - valid until 9pm Thursday evening.

The organisation has warned travel delays on roads, delays and cancellations to rail travel and the possibility of rural communities becoming cut off. Power cuts and mobile phone coverage may also be affected.

Between 10 to 20 cm of snow could accumulate and places at lower levels could see between 5 to 10 cm of snow by Thursday morning.

A yellow snow and ice warning has already be issued for Saturday, covering large parts of northern and central England.
