In reply to Mr Martin's letter (Courant, January 7), it seems that he was afraid of Juncker's proposal for a politically integrated Europe (a United States of Europe).

Surely the nations of Europe are too nationalistic to agree to this?

The moment that this becomes an actual proposal, could be the time for a referendum.

Meanwhile, what chaos Brexit has caused, for example in increasing the bureaucracy in trading arrangements that previously worked satisfactorily for many years, such as for the export of food to Northern Ireland and vice versa and Scottish fish and English lamb to France causing financial losses to business and to farmers.
