THE TYNE Valley will be brought into the living rooms across the country tonight thanks to a new programme helmed by one of Hexham's most famous sons.

Robson Green's Walking Coast to Coast airs tonight (Thursday) at 9pm on Channel 5 - and residents of our area can expect to spot some familar sites.

The new show will see Robson walk along one of Britain’s most impressive archaeological monuments: Hadrian’s Wall.

From its Easternmost point of Segedunum, Robson sets off on his 84-mile-long journey in Hadrian’s footsteps.

Along the way he discovers the boyish thrill of geocaching, learns of the Roman Frontier’s Las Vegas - believe it or not, it's Corbridge! - and its game-changing finds, and sees how some thrifty neighbours repurposed the wall in Wall for their own needs.

He even finds time for a dip in the Tyne near his hometown of Hexham, and a refuel with a classic Northumbrian treat, before burying a little treasure of his own.

At the end of the first episode, Robson is seen enjoying a pint and the views offered by the Rat Inn in Anick.

In addition, a Prudhoe-based charity is also set to feature prominently. Cycling Without Age Prudhoe were invited to take part in the programme during filming last year.

“Robson was fascinated by our trike” said Cycling Without Age Trustee, Councillor Chris Barrett. “We were filmed as we cycled from Wylam heading West back to Prudhoe, whilst talking about our group and how it operates.

"It was a pleasure speaking with Robson who told us that he had always dreamed of travelling the full length of Hadrian’s Wall and was clearly relishing the opportunity."

Robson, who was born at Dilston and lives near Warden, has had numerous acting roles, most prominently in Soldier Soldier.

He is also well known for his fishing programmes such as Extreme Fishing, as well as his musical career as one half of Robson and Jerome, alongside Game of Thrones actor Jerome Flynn.
