THE Tyne Valley's newest supermarket is all set for its grand opening next week.

Prudhoe's brand new Aldi store at the Tyneview Retail Park will open on Thursday, January 14.

It will be run by store manager Kraig Broadhead and a team of 30 colleagues recruited from the local community.

A further 15 new job opportunities will also be brought to the area as a result of the new store.

Aldi Store Manager Kraig Broadhead said: “We’re really looking forward to opening the first Aldi store here in Prudhoe.

"It’s set to be a great day and it’ll be lovely to welcome our new customers into the store and provide them with access to affordable, high quality food.”

Customers visiting the store can safely pick up all the essentials they need.

The Aldi in Prudhoe has a number of safety measures in place, including sanitisation stations on entry, Perspex screens at its tills and social distancing reminders in store, as well as a traffic light system to control the number of people going in and out of the store.

Additionally, the new Aldi store is calling on local charities and food banks in Prudhoe to register with Neighbourly, a community engagement platform that links businesses to charitable organisations in the local community.

Local charities that register will be able to collect surplus food and perishable products, such as fruit, vegetables and baked goods, up to five days a week. Any charities in the area that would like to partner up with the new Aldi store should email aldi@neighbourly.com.

The store follows B&M Bargains, which opened in November, and Cafe Ginevra, which opened this week.

The Tyne Valley's hotly anticipated first McDonald's restaurant has plans to start trading from a new drive thru unit next Spring, and the chain's iconic logo has already gone up.

The scheme is a joint venture between Northumberland County Council's development company, Advance Northumberland, and Northumberland Estates - the Duke of Northumberland's property arm.

Last month, Northumberland Estates has revealed a number of companies are well advanced in talks with international real estate advisor Savills, along with Barker Proudlove, to take over five of the remaining units over. The units range from 1,500 sq ft to 20,000 sq ft in size.

In total, the new retail park, situated at Low Prudhoe, has created around 200 jobs.
