Six crews attend hay barn fire
FIRE crews attended an incident in the east of the district shortly before noon on New Year's Day.
Northumberland Fire & Rescue service was called to a large hay shed fire, at Ponteland Road, Throckley, two miles east of Heddon-on-the-Wall.
Residents in the area were advised to keep all windows and doors closed, while six fire engines and crews dealt with the fire.
It's understood the fire was brought under control, while crews remain in attendance.
A fire service spokesman provided an update at shortly before 5pm.
He said: "The fire is under control, please remain vigilant by keeping doors and windows closed as there may still be some residual smoke."
