THE opening date for supermarket giant Aldi's highly anticipated new Tyne Valley store has been set.
The chain's new outlet at Prudhoe's Tyneview Retail Park will open on January 14, following discount retailer B&M, which started trading last month.
Workers were busy on Monday installing the new signs for the store, which will be only the second major supermarket in town alongside the Co-op on Front Street
Coun. Gordon Stewart, who represents Prudhoe South, said: "This is a great day for Prudhoe. Aldi will improve the retail offering in the town and attract more people to come and shop here, who will spend money throughout the town.
"It's important for people to remember to continue to shop locally - it really is a case of use it or lose it.
"Aldi will also create good, well-paid jobs for local residents, and we will have more reasons to be proud of Prudhoe. I am looking forward to the grand opening."
