TYNEDALE'S three major towns have all revealed their Christmas Lights display - but which one is best?

Christmas this year isn't what we expected, but that hasn't stopped towns and villages across the Tyne Valley from pulling out all the stops.

To find out, we asked Hexham Courant readers which display was their favourite. Here's what they said.

Most people seemed to favour Haltwhistle's display. Shelly Newton said: "Haltwhistle is amazing and the shop displays are brilliant."

Tracy Irwin added: "Definitely Haltwhistle. Fantastic display again this year. They seem to get better each year. Well done all involved."

Angie Little-Bell agreed. She said: "Haltwhistle every time. They're great. Beautiful as always."

Ruth Boyd continued the plaudits for the town. She said: "Haltwhistle always has excellent display, but this year, they are amazing!"

Lorrine Alltree and Gillian Collier were also fans of Halty's lights. Lorraine said: "Definitely Haltwhistle. it looks amazing this year," while Gillian added: "Most definitely Haltwhistle, the tree is stunning this year."

There was some love left over for Prudhoe - Suzanne McNeil said: "Prudhoe lights are lovely, very festive," while Wendy Milligan added: "Prudhoe, looks lovely, merry and bright."

Not everyone was as impressed with Hexham's efforts - Graham Leadbitter said: "Haltwhistle, I’ll give Hexham a grade of 'attempted'."

Kathleen Stewart added: "Hexham needs more up Main Street not everyone goes to the park."

But Douglas Jupp defended the town - he said: "I was impressed with Hexham Sele and new lights down past the old swimming pool."

Also singled out for praise was Bellingham - Pamela Lawson said: "Bellingham - you need to come and see how beautiful it looks.

"Everyone is saying how lovely it looks."

Emma Lockhart and Ellie Martin both agreed. Emma said: "It's lush driving through the village! And the boat road looks lush too," while Ellie added: "It actually does look amazing!! It’s beautiful there."

Jenny Golden commented: "Bellingham is lovely, and with no official light funding!"

But it was Haltwhistle that was the clear winner in the eyes of most people who voiced their opinions, with shops and the streets both making an effort to look as festive as possible.
